ABOUT ME
Hi my name is Colleen O’Neal and I want to thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me!
My husband Steve and I have been married for 32 years; I'm a mother of two, a grandmother to five, and a lover of rescue dogs ~ especially our two! We own our home and believe Bangor can be the city which families and individuals want to call home and feel welcomed and safe.
For over thirty years, my career has been as a public servant, first as a paramedic, then twenty years in emergency management, from which I retired as a Recovery Chief. While serving in those positions, I also volunteered hundreds of hours as a victim liaison, meeting and helping people during their most vulnerable times. Today, I work as a Victim Witness Advocate and Case Manager for the Penobscot Nation Tribal Court.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Security Studies in Intelligence and Analysis and a Master of Science in Homeland Security.
I will fight to Bangor Back with hard work, integrity, and inclusivity.
Bangor is at a crossroad – a crossroad that can no longer be ignored! We face serious problems like housing, homelessness, drugs, and rising taxes that need immediate action. AND we also need immediate, common-sense solutions for business development, safer and cleaner neighborhoods, crime and better work environments/pay for our first responders.
These quality-of-life issues, among many more, matter to me and I promise to work tirelessly for the future of Bangor and its residents. Every problem is part of the puzzle! Impactful change must be based on solid hard facts, accountability, and transparency!

WHERE I STAND...BANGOR DESERVES BETTER

WHY I AM RUNNING FOR
BANGOR CITY COUNCIL
I am running for City Council because I want a safe and thriving Bangor for everyone. My husband and I chose Bangor because we were enamored by its iconic small-town beauty and rich history. Although Bangor is bigger than most cities in Maine, it hasn't lost its small-town charm.
Bangor's population hasn't grown much since the 1970s. Now, with an aging population, we need to reinvent ourselves to attract young professionals to this area. Economic development should focus not just on the here and now, but also on creating professional jobs, training, and sustainable industries. We need to grow our businesses and infrastructure in a way that builds the economy without losing our charm.
My goal for this city is to build on the existing infrastructure while negotiating with larger businesses to drive economic growth without harming local businesses. Doing so will shift the tax burden away from the citizens, while expanding the tax base. Thus, allowing a more affordable Bangor for all.
I don't have all the answers, but I am committed to this city. If elected, I will base my decisions solely on research and facts, not on feelings. You may not like everything I have to say, but I will never placate special-interest groups that may not have Bangor's best interest at the forefront.
Let's bring Bangor back!
